![]() ![]() That move saw Koduri return to his previous Chief Architect role, as Tom's Hardware reported. ![]() Eight months later, the company announced a reorganization of its graphics division, splitting data center from client. A year ago, he was promoted from Senior Vice President to Executive Vice President, according to The Register. The move by Koduri comes after several recent title changes. Some of the fruits of Koduri's labor the Arc Alchemist family of discrete GPUs. Overall, the two GPUs seemed well-received, though, and the company continued to make significant strides with its drivers post-launch. In remarks post-launch, he noted the company's "sweet spot" is a 200W GPU with a single PCIe power cable. Though people were disappointed Intel wasn't competing with Nvidia and AMD at the high end of the market, Raja later stated that it never intended to in the first place. Ultimately, American gamers received two midrange GPUs, the Arc A750 and A770. Both GPUs arrived to market late, and Arc was given a staggered launch that saw it releasing cards in China first, then in the US several months later. ![]() When he popped up again a month later, it was to announce he had joined Intel as a Chief Architect of its graphics division (AXG).Īt Intel, he was in charge of the company's strategy and design for its first discrete GPU, Arc Alchemist, and its data center GPU, Ponte Vecchio. Koduri was in charge of the Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) at the time and took a 40-day sabbatical immediately after Vega launched, which raised some eyebrows. Before that, it had also launched Polaris, a somewhat underwhelming product compared to Nvidia's offerings. Raja famously left AMD after the not-so-great launch of the company's Vega line of GPUs. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced on Twitter that Raja was leaving Intel to found a startup focusing on generative AI for gaming, media, and entertainment. Five years later, with Intel's Arc Alchemist graphics cards shipped and that chapter closed, Koduri has announced it's time for him to try something new. It signaled Intel was getting serious about its graphics technology and possibly even planning on entering the discrete GPU space again. It was a big deal in 2017 when Intel lured famed graphics guru Raja Koduri away from AMD to head up its nascent graphics division. ![]()
